The population is more informed and medically savvy than ever before. They are not afraid to challenge healthcare providers and demand evidence. Practitioners must also understand that what we learned five years ago may no longer be the best treatment choice. Being able to locate current research, understand its implications on clinical decision-making is the way to stay current and excel in this advancing field of healthcare.
Diana Thompson is a licensed massage therapist and has a private practice in Seattle, WA. She authored "Hands Heal: Communication, Documentation and Insurance Billing for Manual Therapists, 3rd edition”. She is the President of the Massage Therapy Foundation, a philanthropic non-profit organization whose mission is to advance the knowledge and practice of massage therapy by supporting scientific research, education, and community service.
